Classes can be one day or longer depending on interest and time. They can run with as many students as suits your group, as long as there is room for everyone to work comfortably. For some of the classes there are optional kits. If staying overnight and travelling far, I appreciate being billeted and assume the group will cover meals.

From September 2008 - June 2010 my fees are: $400/workshop, $300/lecture and $.48/km mileage (subject to change, if gas prices increase). I live in Fergus, north of Guelph.

Beaded Embellishment: In this class you learn how to create fabulous quilts and textile art with a variety of beaded embroidery stitches. You will find out about different types of beads, threads and needles. All levels.

Beading in Circular Peyote Stitch: Become familiar with the circular peyote stitch and begin making a beaded talking stick. Talking sticks are used in First Nations’ circles: the person holding the stick is the one who gets to speak! All levels.

Canvaswork Gems: If you once loved counted cross-stitch and needlepoint but are no longer interested in following other people’s patterns and fussing with too many colours of threads, this class is for you. Use a variety of space-dyed yarns, threads and hand-embroidery stitches to create effortless, intriguing and completely original canvas work centrepieces for your textile art. Learn also how to easily embed them in your quilts and embellish with machine and hand embroidery and beads. Optional kit fee for space-dyed threads. All levels.

Curves, Wedges & Wonky Log Cabins: This is a really fun, hands-on workshop where you learn how to make quilts with irregular, often unplanned shapes. Cut and sew effortless, graceful curves, discover lots of ways to use wedge shapes and create many varieties of logs to build with. Students can choose to make a piece with any or all of the techniques. Great bridge class between traditional and contemporary quilting. All levels.

Embroidered Embelleshment: Spend time learning how to add beautiful hand stitching to your textile art. You'll start by experimenting with new ways of using simple but strikingly effective embroidery stitches with a wide range of decorative threads and yarns.  All levels.

Fabric Painting: These non-toxic, colourfast paints are made by adding liquid pigment in small amounts to a thick white base. The colours look the same on white fabric as they do in the container and you will be free to mix your own. The paint is great to work with and has no end of design possibilities, can be applied thickly or thinly, and cleans up with water. Requires space enough to dry fabric on racks and works best with an easy to wipe floor, and access to a sink for tidying up. All levels.

Machine Quilting: This essential workshop empowers students to begin machine quilting with confidence. We discuss preparing the top, needles, and threads, battings and finishing techniques, including binding and attaching a hanging sleeve, and there‘s lots of time to practice your new skills. Beginners.

Painting With Threads: Plan to experiment and have a lot of fun getting your machine to do tricks you didn‘t know were possible! Hoopwork, openwork, straight, decorative and zigzag stitches are explored. It is a fast-paced and exciting class that will give you enough tools to go home and make original textile art using your threads as paint. Intermediate to advanced.

Silk Fusion: Silk Fusion takes its inspiration from papermaking and wool felting. Using gorgeous natural and dyed silk rovings, you will create sheets of vibrant silk paper, which can range from wispy to thick. Then you will learn a variety of ways to cut, stitch, embellish, collage, quilt, imbed, and sculpt with this exciting and versatile fibre. Perfect for artists of any ability level. Requires water and easy to wipe flooring in facility, and outside drying lines are helpful. Best as a two-day or longer class, but can be done in one day without the stitching.

Textile Collage: Working with a heavier weight canvas as a base, you will paint, ink, stitch and glue with paper and fabric and threads to create original and unexpected wall art.

Painted Threads: In this course you paint the threads and yarns you will use later for hand and machine embroidery. Threads end up with infinite colour variations, and give all your work both subtle and vibrant design possibilities. Requires water and an easy to clean floor, with space to spread out drying threads. All levels.

Wet Felting: Treat yourself by learning how to create soft, beautiful, original felted wool. Later, your felt will be fabulous to embellish with beads or embroidery, incorporate into other textile art or frame as is. Requires water, sinks and easy to wipe flooring. All levels.
